FOR THE KIND ATTENTION OF FELLOW MEMBERS, ALL TAOISTS, KIND DEVOTEES:

Invitation to 9th Singapore Taoist Day - Celebration to mark Tai Shang Lao Jun (Lao Zi) and Fund Raising Dinner to raise funds for "Taoism Studies and Development Fund" to aid the establishing of Tao Theology and Culture Center

To commemorate next year's Lao Zi's birthday, Taoist Mission (Singapore) and 9th Singapore Taoist Day Organizing and Working Committee - 2004 have been working vigorously for 9th Singapore Taoist Day Celebration, so as to continue the mission of glorifying Taoism, promoting Chinese tradition and culture and preserve Singapore's multi racial and religious harmony.

A series of activities is planned for you, your families and friends. Taoist Mission welcomes everyone to participate in the events. They are as follows:

1) Taoist altar setup to honour and celebrate Tai Shang Lao Jun (Lao Zi)'s birthday.
2) "Zhonghua: Tradition, Culture and Life 2" bilingual mobile exhibition with 3D display.
3) Fund Raising Dinner for "Taoism Studies and Development Fund" to aid the establishment of Singapore Tao Theology and Culture Center.

At this year's 8th (2003) Singapore Taoist Day Celebration, besides the grand altar for prayers, we also had a large scaled - "Zhonghua: Tradition, Culture and Life" mobile exhibition. The exhibition had 15 themes and focused on the life of a Chinese and various Chinese tradition festivals. Hence allowing the public to have a better understanding on Zhonghua tradition, culture and life. Only with mutual understanding we can have mutual respect in a multi racial and religious society.

This exhibition had gained the support and thumbs up from the public, fellow Taoists, other races and religions. Some had even suggested it to be exhibited in the form of the museum-style, so as to preserve the rich heritage of Chinese culture and Taoism, allowing future generations to have better understanding of their own religion and culture and encourage other races to have a clearer perceptive over Zhonghua tradition, culture and life.

The Organizing Committee will be contacting all local secondary and primary schools to make arrangement and send their students to visit our exhibition. Furthermore, this event had gained Singapore Tourism Board (STB)'s support and recognition.

STB had specially invited Taoist Mission (Singapore) to work together and assists them in the following:

1) To host next year 9th Singapore Taoist Day Celebration in Chinatown and enhance its attractions for tourist and the local.
2) To revive Chinese culture and tradition that are slowly fading out and allow more young Chinese to understand their 'roots'.
3) To enable promotion of Chinese heritage preservation and allow local Chinese and Singaporean to be proud of 'Singapore Chinatown'.

In view of these reasons, Taoist Mission (Singapore) accepted this priviledged invitation to stage the celebration in Chinatown.

President of Republic of Singapore His Excellency S.R. Nathan and Mrs. Nathan are our Guests of Honour for the 9th Singapore Taoist Day and will officiate the opening ceremony of the celebration.

Our main focus for the next Taoist Day Celebration is on the setting up of the Tao Theology and Culture Center. Plans had been laid out earlier on but as we had allocate full resources on promoting Taoism and preserving Chinese heritage, the progress of setting up the Tao Theology and Culture Center had been put on hold. However we are determined to establish this Tao Theology and Culture Center. Therefore Taoist Mission (Singapore) had mobilized all of its resources in setting up this Tao Theology and Culture Center.

With the establishment of the Tao Theology and Culture Center, we can continue and move with greater pace in promoting Taoist teachings, Chinese heritage, arts, music and education so as to nurture excellent Taoist intellectual and also learn more about multi-religion and cultures in Singapore.

Simultaneously, we would setup an Information Center to provide the public with valuable resources and information. Although we are inexperience in this field but with a mission and objective of promoting the Chinese heritage and values and in order to allow those who are keen and interested in Chinese heritage and Taoism to come together and learn, we boldly went ahead in setting up a Tao Theology and Culture Center. This would also be a new milestone for Taoism in Singapore. In the process of setting up the Tao Theology and Culture Center, no doubt we need the advice and help from China Taoist Institute, China Shanghai Taoist Institute, Hong Kong Taoist Institute, Zhonghua Taoist Institute, Fung Ying Seen Koon Taoist Culture Database and various Institute, Religion Culture Centers and scholars from all over the world.
