RESTORATION WORKS PROJECTED TO KICK-OFF IN SEPTEMBER 2011 ----

AN APPEAL FOR DONATION TO FINANCE THE WORKS OF A 170 YEAR- OLD SINGAPORE NATIONAL MONUMENT – 新加坡玉皇宫SINGAPORE YU HUANG GONG Temple of Heavenly Jade Emperor, (former Keng Teck Whay Building), at 150 TELOK AYER STREET, SINGAPORE.

Taoist Mission has undertaken the responsibility to reinstate the glory of the temple building and to revive its rich historical, social-culture and architecture heritage as a National Monument. The project is scheduled to complete by end of 2012, and thereafter open as a place of public and tourist interest.
The monument is now in a dilapidated state and is desperately in need of restoration and conservation costing approx 3.5 million Singapore dollars.

AN ETERNAL HOME!

The heritage national monument "Keng Teck Building" (Officially renamed as Singapore Yu Huang Gong - "Temple of the Heavenly Jade Emperor", “新加坡玉皇宫”) which is desperately in need of restoration and repair works, have a change of owner on 31st March 2010. Keng Teck Whay, which was established in 1831, has transferred the ownership rights of the Temple of the Heavenly Jade Emperor located at Telok Ayer Street to the Taoist Mission (Singapore). Taoist Mission will in turn need to raise $3.5 million of funds from the public, in order to start restoration work on this Monument.

Although the Temple of the Heavenly Jade Emperor, like Thian Hock Keng, is a gazetted monument as early as 1977, the lack of funds hamper its restoration work. The last few years, the old pagoda is being supported by wooden planks and iron frames, and the building is looking more and more in danger of collapsing as the time goes by. As the temple has limited land space, not even a toilet, Taoist Mission hope to get a lease from URA to rent the back of the Temple of the Heavenly Jade Emperor, and develop Tao Theology and Culture Centre there.

Currently the ground floor of the Temple of the Heavenly Jade Emperor houses San Guan Da Di, the Three Divine Officials of Heaven, Earth and Weater, the 2nd storey honours the Heavenly Jade Emperor, and the building behind the pagoda worship the ancestors. The immediate task is to raise $3.5million for the restoration project. The Taoist Mission Building Projects Fund-raising campaign has began earlier, but so far has collected less than $500,000. We hope that restoration works can be commenced along with the sourcing of funds, hope to start work half a year later, and finish the restoration work in 2 years' time. We hereby sincerely plead for your support to donate generously.
